VIP

Sometimes, as an author or lecturer, for example, one is given special treatment as a Very Important Person. For example, in 2005, I was in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, to give a talk at the Little Green Men Festival on the fiftieth anniversary of an alleged extraterrestrial encounter near there (see Tracking the Man-Beasts, 2011, 167-172), when another guest and I were each given a Key to the City and chauffeured about by the mayor's driver. Among many other examples, I was once given-in response to my work on the case of John Demjanjuk, the later-convicted Nazi war criminal (see Nazi Hunter)-VIP tours of the document laboratories of the U.S. Secret Service (where I was given the lapel pin shown) and the Bureau of Immigration and Naturalization.
