Special Needs Worker

During my years as a Stage Magician, I often worked with various special-needs children and adults. I did tailored performances for those who had hearing impairment, physical handicaps, or health or cultural issues. I also did a show for adults who had Down Syndrome or other challenging conditions, and I conducted a series of workshops in which I taught magic at Toronto's Sunny View School for handicapped children. (Some attendees had good use of their hands while a few did not, including one girl whose hands were attached to her shoulders. Each time, I brought a variety of tricks: some requiring dexterity, others not—for example, mind-reading effects and "self-working" card tricks. I performed and explained everything for everyone; then each student chose one or more to work on.)
