Parapsychologist

Parapsychology being the study of alleged psychic phenomena, a parapsychologist is "a person who studies and records parapsychological phenomena" (The World Book Dictionary, 1978). I am a skeptical parapsychologist (just as I am a skeptical UFOlogist, Cryptozoologist, etc.).

I have tested dowsers (see my Secrets of the Supernatural, 1988, 89-102); investigated hauntings (sometimes with the late psychologist Robert A. Baker) and tabulated numerous ghost-experiences questionnaires; and exposed bogus mediums and psychics, sometimes going undercover and in disguise to do so, as a Psychics' Nemesis. (See my "Phantoms, Frauds, or Fantasies?" in James Houran and Rense Lange, Hauntings and Poltergeists: Multidisciplinary Perspectives, 2001, 214-223).
