Literary Editor

In 1964 I was co-editor, and during 1965-66 the editor, of Stylus, the literary magazine of the University of Kentucky. (In 1967 I received the Farquhar Award for the best poetry published in the magazine.) In 1965 I was also co-editor of the university newspaper's Literary Supplement (published April 15). A reviewer, Dr. W.F. Axton, found its publication "a real literary event" being "as handsome and worthwhile a venture" as it was. (He also said of my own poetry therein: "Joe Nickell's work has a fine, hard, bare directness and a simplicity of things seen and recorded which set the tone for much of what is best in the remainder of the issue.")
