First-Aider

Receiving my Boy Scout merit badge in first aid, I later had additional first-aid training in a Red Cross course. I have given first aid on many occasions. (None was more memorable than during my stint as a Poverty Program Worker in Carroll Co., Ga., when, in a domestic dispute, a woman hacked a man's arm with a butcher knife. I directed him to put pressure to stop the serious bleeding while I put him in my government car and sped with him to the hospital, nearly rear-ending a police car at a stoplight! The officer quickly grasped the situation and gave me a red light to the emergency room where the man's gaping wound was stitched.)
