Barroom Brawler
In addition to breaking up many fistfights in my undercover role as a Tavern Waiter, I was also involved in several bar fights myself, mostly at Grossman's Tavern in Toronto in the 1970s. I never lost a fight but in one instance, after I had pummeled a troublemaker's head against a table and he'd been thrown out, I discovered I'd broken my hand. One fight occurred on the street outside the bar when I went after a guy who assaulted "Shorty" Grossman on the tavern steps. (A policeman pulled me off him, intending to arrest me, until waiters rushing from the bar set the officer straight--whereupon he released me and handcuffed the assailant.)
