Sign Painter

For many years, beginning at age 14, I was a professional sign painter in eastern Kentucky. I operated out of my home town of West Liberty where I eventually had a shop that I operated each summer until I graduated from college in 1967 (see first group of photos).

Again, in 1976 (see next group of pictures) I operated a sign shop in Dawson City, Yukon, with "Sourdough Sue" Ward, called Sourdough Signs.

Yet again, in the 1980s and 1990s I occasionally wielded a lettering quill or single-stroke brush on visits to my mother's home in West Liberty during breaks from graduate studies and teaching (see remaining group of photos).
