Riverboat Manager

During my second summer in the Yukon, 1976, I worked as a general manager for Capt. Dick Stevenson's Yukon River Tours, which took tourists on boat trips via the paddlewheeler Yukon Lou. I was not a captain, but I did occasionally operate a smaller boat (The Klondike Kate, pictured here). I helped do bookkeeping and correspondence, run our cabin office and gift shop (pictured below), maintain an outdoorsman's camp, and tend to Dick's smoked salmon enterprise. Dick and I also hunted, prospected, and caroused together, and my time spent there is among my fondest recollections.
