Fakelorist

Just as a Folklorist is one who studies folklore, one who researches fakelore-that produced or enhanced by a storyteller rather than genuine folk tradition-is a fakelorist. I have had many occasions to distinguish the bogus variety from the true. See for instance, my exposé of the fake ghost legend of Louisiana's Myrtles Plantation (pictured here): "Haunted Plantation," Skeptical Inquirer, 27:5 (September/October), 2003, pp. 12-15.
